ESTIMATE IN 5 SECONDS

A professional translator is capable of translating an average of 3,000 words per day.

His translation capacity can go up to 4,000 words translated per day depending on the content of the text, for example when the same expressions are used repeatedly.

Two main cases can be distinguished:

Express translation of very short texts of an informative nature (emails, faxes of a few dozen words and a few pages)

Express translation of very short texts can be completed without reservation in a few hours since the amount of work required does not exceed the working capacity of a translator.

Express translation of longer documents and sometimes even of voluminous files and reports (several thousand words, several tens of pages) for a meeting or a conference.

While the express translation of very short texts can be entrusted to the diligence of a single translator, the express translation of long texts cannot always be carried out by a single translator and depends on several factors: the size of the document to be translated, the deadline requested by the client, the availability of the translators and the reviser in the language combinations requested and, of course, the price.

In the context of an express translation request comprising more than 3,000 words (about 10 pages), the work of the translation agency consists of matching these different parameters.

In the case of express translation of even larger documents, it is wise to use terminology database management tools that help translators perform express translation in the best possible way. In the event of a large express translation request, it is advisable to use such translation memories because time is short. This of course increases the translation capacity of the professional translator but also reduces any risk of error and the use of several different terms to translate the same word into the foreign language.

Operation of translation memories: Translation memories allow the translator to retrieve data that has already been translated previously in an identical or similar context. This can be particularly useful and effective when carrying out express translation of documents with recurring content. But this is not always the case. On the one hand, the translator does not always have the appropriate terminology base for your specific project and the work of using the database is in itself a task that requires special specialization in addition to the qualifications specific to a translator. Indeed, do not believe that the translator presses a button while watching the machine do the work for him. On the contrary, the retrieval of data from translation memories must be the subject of very careful care on the part of the translator. In the hands of a layman, the use of translation memory can prove to be counter-productive because it is too complex to manage in situations where there is an express translation request.

Let's imagine a legal translator who translates legal decisions every day, and who has been using a translation memory for 20 years that is fed and enriched as and when new translations are made.

When our legal translator translates a new legal text using translation software and its translation memory, they will recognize the sections of sentences it has already translated in the past and suggest that the translator apply a same translation.

It is always the translator who must choose the best formula or decide that the translation proposed by his translation memory is not adapted to the context. This implies a very scrupulous reading of both the original text AND the translation proposed by the database. Legal texts being particularly convoluted, this exercise of comparison is always relatively complicated for the translator and the proofreader.

Another technical constraint which is important: the original document must be written in an editable format such as Microsoft Word or Excel. If the documents to be translated in an express way are transmitted by fax, the translation memory will not be applicable to the document.

A large express translation can also be done without using a translation memory: when the document to be translated is large and contains several dozen pages, and the translation must be done urgently and expressly, and there is no translation memory appropriate to the context (which is the majority of cases), then it is advisable to divide the work among several translators and to submit their work to the supervision of an experienced reviewer. A proofreader is able to compare the original with the translation produced by several translators.

A translation proofreader performs an essential task that requires great concentration and thoroughness. The placement of a comma can change the meaning of a sentence, and the proofreader's role is to detect any spelling, grammar, or stylistic anomalies. An experienced proofreader can proofread about fifty pages a day, depending on the difficulty of the subject and style. Needless to say, express translation work on large documents is very sensitive, as it necessarily involves more risk than a translation done in a standard time frame. Breaking a document down into parts and dividing the translation task among several translators inevitably results in different translations for identical terms. The same term can often be translated in several ways. And when several translators are working on an express translation of several dozen pages, they do not necessarily have the time to consult each other at all times. This is why the intervention of a proofreader is particularly important, especially in cases of express translations. The proofreader's role is to proofread the original and the translation in tandem. They must ensure that a term is translated identically throughout the final document.

A Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée) is a translation accompanied by an official endorsement signed by the expert translator and the translation agency that attests to the accuracy and authenticity of the document. Sworn Translations (Traductions assermentées) are mainly requested by public authorities and official institutions such as universities, prefectures, town halls, consulates and embassies.

001 Translations will stamp your document with its professional stamp and assign it a unique reference number.

If you need to present an official document issued in France in a foreign country, the authorities involved usually ask you for a Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée) of the document. But a Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée) is not always enough. Sometimes the entity receiving the document requires additional steps to legalize the Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée), i.e., so that the Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée) is legally valid on an international scale.

The steps to be carried out depend on the country of destination and the body requesting the translation. This is why we always advise our clients to check with the requesting body to find out what type of legalization they need:

  • Sworn Translation (Traduction assermentée)
  • Legalization of the translator's signature
  • Apostille

Sometimes, the body requesting the translation requires the legalization of the translator's signature. This formality is carried out in town hall, with a notary public or at the Chamber of Commerce. It makes it possible to check the identity of the translation’s signatory as a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté). The official or notary public affixes a seal indicating that the identity of the signatory has been verified and that the translator's signature is correct.

Sometimes, the entity requesting the translation requires that the state be a guarantor of the translation process. IIn the US, the Office of the Secretary of State provides apostille service to U.S. citizens and foreign nationals on documents that will be used overseas. The Secretary of State will certify that your translation has been notarised and that the legal procedure has been respected. The official at the Secretary of State - called an apostille - with an identification number to your document.

The apostille is only valid for countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention. If the destination country for your documents is not a signatory to the Hague Convention, you may need to take different steps, such as traveling to the appropriate consulate. It is your responsibility to check with the appropriate authorities to determine the procedure.

In France, ENIC-NARIC is the information center for diploma recognition. https://www.france-education-international.fr/enic-naric-france

If you studied in France and want to get your diplomas recognized abroad, the ENIC-NARIC center will inform you about the procedure to follow, since the steps to be taken are different for each country

On the other hand, if you studied abroad and you want your diplomas to be recognized in France, the ENIC-NARIC center will issue an certificate of comparability for a degree obtained abroad. To obtain this certificate, you will need to put together a file with all the documents requested by the ENIC-NARIC center, and in particular, the translation of your diplomas, and the legalization of these documents.

If you want to get your diplomas translated for the ENIC-NARIC center, 001 Translations has years of experience in translating diplomas, and university and academic transcripts and report cards.

Consider the various elements of your application, such as:

Sworn translators in a given language are sometimes few and far between and therefore may be unavailable when you need a document translated quickly or even urgently.

In addition, sworn translators (traducteurs assermentés) charge free fees and therefore may charge you higher rates than a translation agency that may have negotiated prices.

Serious translation agencies, managed themselves by professional translators - which is of course the case for 001 Translations - have developed an expertise in the field of certifying official documents.

A high price does not in any way mean that the translation will be of better quality, but the difference can also be justified by the means implemented to guarantee that the translated document will be delivered to you on time (such as shipping by registered mail, DHL, Fedex or Chronopost).

In addition, because of their position as intermediaries, translation agencies are in contact with many sworn translators (traducteurs assermentés) on French territory and abroad.

This can be very important if the translation has to be done expressly in 24 or 48 hours, for example.

In general, as with any official act, a significantly longer period of time must be allowed for Sworn Translations (Traductions assermentées).

A sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) can translate any official document: civil or criminal proceedings, intended to be produced before a court, administrative and civil status documents, bailiff's deeds, notarial deeds, but also academic documents, such as:

Generally speaking, a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) is authorized to officially translate any document written in a foreign language that must be presented in court or before the French (or foreign) administrative authorities. This is all the more valid for the translation of documents which enable the authorities to draw up official civil status documents (marriage certificates, residence permits, divorce decrees, notarial acts, affiliations to Social Security, to CAF, child adoptions, birth certificates, ...). An official translation is of course required for French documents requested by foreign consulates.

The sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) is considered a judicial expert who assists the judiciary in its work  in the same way as lawyers, they are a part of the auxiliaries of justice.

He performs expert missions and provides faithful translations that can be produced before any public authority of the Republic. In other words, the translation must be consistent with the original. This is called an official Sworn Translation (traduction officielle assermentée). The sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) will sign all their translations as well as the copies of the originals that they have processed by affixing their stamp. A translation made by a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) is valid within the entire French territory and the overseas territories and departments before any organization and administration.

Beyond their official missions as an expert, the sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) can completely make translations for individuals, lawyers, companies, authorities etc. in many other fields than legal. And they may well have one or more areas of specialization (technical, medical, scientific, literary or economic).

The only difference between a sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) and a non-sworn translator (traducteur non-assermenté) is that the former is approved by the public authorities. No criteria of degree or experience are taken into account. 001 Translations ensures that the sworn translator (traducteur assermenté) has at least one university degree in foreign languages and that they have solid experience in translation.

Be sure to check when you call that the translation agency you are contacting has Civil and Professional Liability Insurance.

Upon request, a translation agency must provide you with proof that it is indeed insured against any professional risk. For Sworn Translations (Traductions assermentées), this precaution is fundamental because you will be entrusting official documents to your intermediary. If it turns out that they are not trustworthy, you can lose your documents. Your contact person or their manager should send you a fax outlining their professional guarantees and can reassure you as a result.

As a general rule, the higher the insured amount, the more you can trust and be sure that the translation agency will give you satisfactory work.

In fact, an insurance company would never cover damages without being certain of the translator's or translation agency's skills.

001 Translations is insured up to 800,000 Euro per translation contract per year, which is the maximum guarantee in translation services.

    Website Translation

Translating a website is never something to be taken lightly.

    Why?

Your business website is your commercial reception window. Your multilingual website will be seen around the world. In one click, you can seduce or scare away visitors to your website.

Like you, your customers expect straightforward presentation and accurate content, without any spelling, grammar or of syntax. In addition to these basic expectations, the turns of phrase must be idiomatic and the words must be precise and not simply approximate.

Faithful translation of the informative content of your website is therefore, by definition, one of the essential components of your success.

Mastery of the language is obviously the essential principle that guarantees the reliability of a translation. The first rule of thumb is to only translate into your mother tongue.

Thus, having a document translated into English by a trilingual employee or secretary whose language mother tongue is not English (but, for example, French) is a serious mistake. Despite all the good intentions of the improvised translator, the result will be a sloppy or hasty translation job which will inevitably have serious consequences on your sales and turnover.

On Indeed, translation is a real job, not just a hobby. No one can become a specialist overnight. A professional translator has completed 4 years of intensive study in a specific field (economics, science, law or technology) and not in all fields! Just as a doctor is not an engineer and a technician is not a lawyer, a professional translator has a specialty.

Over the years, for more than 20 years, 001 Translations has acquired proven experience in the translation of websites of all types. Specialist in the translation of SAP IT systems since their first development in French in the 1980s, we know the importance of computer literacy in the modern world.

Using a translator with knowledge of the domain you want to present is just common sense. The translator of a website in the field of finance or business will therefore have specific knowledge of the translation of economic and financial terms. The translator of a website in a technical field will, for his part, have in-depth knowledge of the technical field, etc.

A precise methodology for translation work is essential. Detailed research of the intention of the author and the company for each translated sentence is essential.

Knowledge of programming tools is essential. It makes it possible to respect the tags, the codes which serve to highlight certain expressions on your website. Failure to respect these tags leads to nonsense and aberrations.

At 001 Traductions, we localise your website: not only is the translation of your content impeccable, but also the keywords are translated and improve the positioning of your website. website and your ranking in foreign search engines.

Conclusion 1: A trilingual secretary knows perfectly how to answer brief telephone calls in English, Spanish or German, but she is not able to carry out substantive work in terms of quality translation - even for your website - allowing you to win new customers.

Conclusion 2: Have your website translated by a specialist who will share all his translation experience with you in an efficient way and give you complete satisfaction.

    Specialized Translation

Whatever your field of specialization, 001 Translations's translators guarantee specialized translation work that meets your demands.

Like any profession, ours is subject to rules of ethics and professional rigour. As such, it is understood that any translator from 001 Translations can only translate documents into their mother tongue.

In order to provide translation services of impeccable quality, the professional translators of 001 Translations UK who are assigned to translate your specialised documents must have completed formal academic training as translators in a specific area of specialisation (economy, law, literature, science or technology).

Each of our translators must also have prior professional experience with institutions or private companies or within international organisations and, in particular, in a specific area of specialisation. Within our translation teams, some translators have held positions of very high responsibility in their field of specialisation with investment banks, international industrial groups or with European institutions, which allows us to make it unique. Specialised terminology and concepts no longer hold any secrets for hand-picked translators.

As a rule of thumb, any translator who wishes to join our team is systematically subjected to a series of specialised tests and generals; his translation once validated by our revisers, he can then be part of our team of translators; after signing confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, he may be assigned translation work in his field of specialisation or in a related field but still very close to his skills as a translator.

001 Translations UK also requires that all translators demonstrate their understanding of the most modern communication techniques in their field. Relying on a combination of strong specialist skills and excellent linguistic abilities, 001 Translations UK guarantees that its translators are truly experts in the translation of all

    main specialized documents.

By rigorously applying these precautionary principles for years, 001 Translations has been able to take out a Professional Liability insurance policy amounting to 800,000 Euros per translation contract per year.
